CSS3: New Opportunities

I have just found an interesting detail about CSS3 (still in draft) on the W3Cs Website. It seems to be quite an innovative feature in webdesign.
ItW3C Logo will bring the flexibility of the DTP sector into the webdesign. What I am talking about, is colums. I know there are still tables you can use for a kind of »column style« layout. But is not really the same, as tables are not as flexible as colums; especially when it comes to text flow, from one column into the next, or the flexibility to fit into a given space, by changings it's size.
Here a quote from the W3Cs page:
»On the Web, tables have also been used to describe multi-column layouts. The main benefit of using CSS-based columns is flexibility; content can flow from one column to another, and the number of columns can vary depending on the size of the viewport. By removing presentational table markup from documents they can more easily be presented on various output devices, including speech synthesizers and small mobile devices.«

That makes it pretty clear I think. It's quite an good idea and a necessary step.
