To spice up your daily communication, Spicebird was designed with chat and News-Feed integration. It's the perfect tool as a lightweight Evolution replacement and more focused on the home user. Rather than to bring all the important business features it's made to integrate all your personal Topics in one piece of Software. It comes even with a neat start-screen to give you an overview of what's currently going on in all departments.
Anyway, I didn't want to write a long story here. Spicebird was hyped all over the web those days. So most things are probably explained. Only one thing that still iches me, is that I can't make use of the mail and the chat feature yet. Because usually all my connections (Jabber, IMAP, SMTP) work on SSL. But Spicebird seems to still have issues with SSL/TLS handling. Probably it works already with the "official" certificates. But not with CA-Cert ones, even if you import the Root-Cert yourself.
So, I hope I will have more luck with that, when the beta phase is over!

Elisa ist der Name einer Media-Center Software, für Linux und andere Plattformen. Das Projekt ist allerdings noch sehr jung, macht aber optisch schon einen recht schicken Eindruck.
Bei meiner Testinstallation der aktuellen Version, lief es etwas unperformant und ließ sich so nur unflüssig bedienen. Aber das was sich da entwickelt, scheint in die richtige Richtung zu gehen. Coole Gimnicks sind vor allem die F-Spot und Youtube (+andere Webdienste) Integration. Es gibt verschiedene Ansichts-Modi, unter anderem auch die vom neuen MacOS bekannte »Karussel«- bzw. Slideshow-Ansicht.

Ich hab euch natürlich auch ein paar nette Screenshots gemacht.

Ubuntu is also celebrating GNOMEs birthday today. They give them a big cake on there startpage and declare a hug day bewtween GNOME and Ubuntu. Bretty sweet though.

Die Entdeckung einer Sicherheitslücke hat einen Coder zu einem lustigen Wurm inspiriert. Der Wurm repariert die Sicherheitlücke vollautomatisch.

Es gab wohl mal wieder einen erfolgreichen Schlag gegen die weite Verbreitung von Microsoft-Produkten. Das konnte so auch nicht weiter gehen!

The new version of Wine-Doors (I wrote about it) called "Vinegar Finger" came out today. That is the first stable release of the software which still is in version 0.1.

Ich habe mir jetzt auch mal Compiz-Fusion (unter Ubuntu) installiert und bin echt begeistert. Ich finde seit meinem letzten Compiz-Test hat sich echt vieles getan. Die Performance ist ebenfalls immer wieder beeindruckend. Deaktiviert man die Cube-Transparenz läuft alles noch um einiges flüssiger. Ich betreibe das hier mit einem billigen Asus Celeron Laptop, mit einer 0815 Intel-Grafikkarte und 512MB RAM und man muss sagen das reicht völlig. Die Systemauslastung nimmt eigentlich durch Compiz kaum zu. Ich habe die Anleitung von ubuntuforums.org genommen. Die funktioniert eigentlich ohne Umstände. Bei mir war es allerdings so, dass ich den Cube nicht drehen konnte. Das ging auch schon mit "Ubuntu-Compiz" nicht. Allerdings ging es nach dem entfernen aller config files im Homedir (.gconf/apps/compiz und .compizconfig/).
Für eine unstable Version ist es eigentlich schon recht stabil. Seit dem ich die alten configs gelöscht habe läuft Compiz Fusion eigentlich ohne Abstürze und ohne Hänger. Screenshots gibt's in meiner Gallery. Signifikante Verbesserungen sind die Cube Reflections und eine Fülle neuer Funktionen, die aber Trotzdem übersichtlich bleiben. Dank dem neuen Config-Tool.
Ein schönes Zusammenspiel ergibt sich auch bei der Benutzung von Screenlets, die dann auch echte Transparenz understüzen.
