Tutorial: Inkscape Patterns

Today logoI discovered a useful feature within Inkscape, which I haven't used so far. To provide the information to others, I though it would be a good idea by making a small tutorial.
The feature is pretty easy to use anyway, actually I doesn't need much explanation. I just wanted to show the given possibilities of the pattern-feature. So next time you come across a task, which could easily be done with pattern-filling of an object, you will now how to accomplish that. Have Fun!

Banshee on Windows

The famous Music-Player Banshee, seems to run on Windows now. I just found a screenshot on a Blog. That would mean, that if you need to work on Windows for some reason, you have at least one proper Music-Player now. (Please don't mention Winamp & Co)

Compiz Fusion

IE+Wine made easy

I guess many people like me, know about the possibility to run Windows-Software on Linux with Wine. Though it's not always that easy to run some software with Wine out of the box. I already tried to install Internet-Explorer in the past and never got further than the install process. To eas the installation and make it a working one, there is a nice little project, which provides a script for that purpose. The project is called »IEs 4 Linux« and gives you a script that does all the work for you. You just have to install wine and cabextract on your system and execute the script.
I think that's quite an insteresting aspect for all Webdesigners, or other people who want to check how some sites render in IE, without starting Windows first.
Another project which uses Wine, is also on the way to become stable. I am talking about »Wine-Doors« [older article], which also looks quite promising.

Arch-Linux

The Future of GNOME

I just saw that a the roadmap for the GNOME 2.2 relases is out. There are many good improvements on the list. So, if you are a GNOME user it's really woth a look.

Another good news is, that Ekiga (VoIP client) is finally getting a nice GUI with a proper contact list. So it will offer more usability than the ancient GnomeMeeting look. The new GUI will be first used in Ekiga 3.0.

So we can expect nice things to happen in the near future. GNOME 2.20 will come out on the 19th of September (according to the schedule), including the version 3.0 of Ekiga.
