I think the temperature in the Tooltip is the right one. The 1°C in the panel itself didn't change over the past few hours...

Da inzwischen die letzte Beta Version des zukünftigen Ubuntus heraus kam, habe ich heute mal mein System auf die neue Version »ge-upgraded« [Anleitung].
Da dies die letzte Beta vor dem finalen Relaease sein wird, kann man schon ohne Befürchtungen auf die neue Version upgraden. Ich habe dieses mal wieder ohne CD mithilfe des Update-Tools installiert. Das dauert zwar Ewigkeiten, aber man muss danach nicht alle Programme, die man zusätzlich installiert hatte wieder installieren. Ich denke ich werde aber dennoch eine saubere CD Installation vornehmen sobald die Final draußen ist.
Der Upgrade Prozess hat eigentlich ohne Probleme geklappt. Nach dem Upgrade gibt es wie üblich noch ein paar kleinere Zipperlein. So funktioniert sudo irgendwie gerade noch nicht. Die Fonts im GNOME-Terminal und in GDM werden auch etwas komisch dargestellt. Aber ansonsten ist fast alles wie beim alten. Außer das ich natürlich das tolle neue GNOME und den neuen Firefox am Start habe.

After I installed Foresight-Linux on my old Laptop today, to take a look at the new GNOME 2.22, I could also get a glimpse on the new version of Banshee. The New Last.fm-Radio integration looked just great, though it seems not yet to be rock solid, in the 0.13.x release. After happily playing a bit with this feature, I already had discovered some nice new tracks.
Comming back to my normal computer and checking my newreader, I found out that other people are happy with that feature too and that there is already a new alpha release of Banshee. The release (1.0 Alpha 1) just came out today and is bringing even more great features. From the initial article I finally landed on the »official blog entry« and the release notes.
That all looks so great, that I think Banshee will be my default music-player, as soon the stable version of 1.0 is out. They finally implemented the new Artist/Album browser, I always missed too. I also learned today that the search-field in Banshee is much more powerful than I would have guessed.
So, better to stay tuned on the music player issue, Rhythmbox is finally getting some serious competitors...

Die neue Version GNOME 2.22 wurde heute offiziell freigegeben. Eine Übersicht der Neuerungen findet man auf dieser Seite. Ich glaube ich sollte mal wieder mein Ubuntu upgraden...

Kaum gab es die ersten großen Diskussionen und Ankündigungen zum Internet Explorer 8, schon gibt es eine erste Beta-Version.
Ich dachte die fangen erst gerade an mit Entwickeln. Im Vergleich zu den Vorgängern ging das ja echt mal flott. IE7 hat sich ja noch nicht mal komplett verbreitet und schon kommt der Nachfolger...

Nachdem nun alle neuen Browserversionen (ab IE8 und FF3 auch die letzten zwei) den Acid-2 Test bestehen, ging das »Webstandards Project« in die nächste Runde und gab heute die Fertigstellung des neuen Acid-3 Tests bekannt.
Im Firefox-3-beta2 sieht es ja schon garnicht so schlecht aus, wie ich festgetellt habe. Mehr Screenshots von andere Browsern hat heise in seinem Artikel verlinkt.

Since AMD/ATI has opened towards the Opensource-Community by releasing specs and Opensource drivers and Intel has Opensource drivers anyway, Nvidia is the last remaining famous vendor, not sharing any specs for their video-cards. By hoping that that happens soon, someone startet a petition asking Nvidia to open up. It's an open letter you can sign.

I usually don't expect too much from petitions and such things. But that's just a step, towards what will happen anyway. Nvidia can't hold back their specs on the long run. Otherwise their drivers will always lack stability and flexibility on none Windows plattforms. And the alternatives are certainly there...
