Nachdem ich am Montag Morgen wieder vom Southside zurück bin, hier ein kurzer Bericht meines Wochenendes:
Folgende Bands hab ich (fast) in voller Länge gesehen:

Des weiteren habe ich noch bei folgenden Bands vorbeigeschaut. Durch Überschneidungen oder Müdigkeit konnte ich allerdings nicht immer lange bleiben. Bei manchen habe ich auch nur kuez rein geschnuppert:

Mit dem Wetter hatten wir dieses Jahr wieder Glück. Strahlender Sonnenschein über das ganze Wochenende.
Ich hoffe das nächstes Jahr wieder die ganze Kombo mitgeht und ich wieder mehr Gesellschaft vor der Bühne hab...

Banshee 1.0 was finally released a few days ago. Yesterday I got it installed on my Ubuntu machine. Ubuntu Debs are already there too available in the Banshee Ubuntu repository.
If you have tried Banshee and didn't like it in the earlier versions, you should give it another shot it's really worth trying. Except of the brilliant last.fm integration we heard about already, it has many other improvements too and finally we have an Artist/Album browser as well!

Ich habe ja gerade erst ein paar Fachhochschulen in der Nähe von Köln bereist (Aachen, Krefeld).
Daher bot sich noch an auch gleich Lars einen Besuch in Köln abzustatten. Bin also am Donnerstag Abend hier in Köln eingetroffen. Gestern haben wir uns dann noch relativ spontan entschlossen das Kettcar Konzert im E-Werk zu besuchen. Das Konzert war echt ein Hit. Hätte nicht gedacht das Kettcar live so abgehen.

Das lange WE werde ich wohl noch hier in Köln verbringen, am Montag geht es dann wieder zurück.

I already now a few players for the Linux desktop, like Rhythmbox, Banshee, Muine, AmaroK, Exaile and some others. Some of them have developed to really nice pieces of software, like Banshee and Rhythmbox, which offer a nice music management along with a nice GUI. I already wrote about the upcomming version of Banshee for example.
Today I discovered (via blog-post) another nice player which is still quite young, but looks good. It's name is BMPx following the Beep Media Player (BMP), but it has a completely new interface. The Integration of music web-services is well done. Like Last.fm for example. But it also offers other stuff you already know from Rhythmbox, like Jamendo integration and of course Podcast and Internet-Radio management. Worth to give it a try at least.

Das Lineup des diesjährigen Southside Festivals begibt sich wieder in die interessante Phase! Es sind inzwischen schon über 10 Bands dabei die ich auf jeden Fall sehen will. Ein Problem habe ich allerdings im Moment noch und das ist, dass dieses Jahr irgendwie noch garnichts fest steht, von wegen wer hingeht und so. Die übliche Kombo der letzten Jahre scheint schwer zu wanken... :-/
Nachdem ich aber schon letzes Jahr nicht dabei sein konnte, will ich eigentlich dieses Jahr schon hin. Ich hoffe ich kann noch Leute auftreiben, wobei mir spontan garnicht so viele einfallen.
Naja, auf jeden Fall schonmal ein super Lineup, zumindest ein Parameter der beim Southside immer stimmt!

After I installed Foresight-Linux on my old Laptop today, to take a look at the new GNOME 2.22, I could also get a glimpse on the new version of Banshee. The New Last.fm-Radio integration looked just great, though it seems not yet to be rock solid, in the 0.13.x release. After happily playing a bit with this feature, I already had discovered some nice new tracks.
Comming back to my normal computer and checking my newreader, I found out that other people are happy with that feature too and that there is already a new alpha release of Banshee. The release (1.0 Alpha 1) just came out today and is bringing even more great features. From the initial article I finally landed on the »official blog entry« and the release notes.
That all looks so great, that I think Banshee will be my default music-player, as soon the stable version of 1.0 is out. They finally implemented the new Artist/Album browser, I always missed too. I also learned today that the search-field in Banshee is much more powerful than I would have guessed.
So, better to stay tuned on the music player issue, Rhythmbox is finally getting some serious competitors...

Nachdem die ersten Bands schon Ende Dezember fest standen, kam heute nochmal ein guter Schub an Zusagen für's Southside 2008 dazu.
Bisher sieht es ja schonmal ganz gut aus. Ich hab ja schon anklingen lassen, dass ich dieses Jahr auf jeden Fall wieder hin will; nachdem ich letztes Jahr wegen Prüfungen nicht anwesend war.
Nun hat auf jeden Fall die interessante Phase begonnen. Meine Favoriten bisher sind: Maxïmo Park, Stars (ja Hannes die kommen wohl auch!), Foo Fighters, Beatsteaks, Billy Talent, Radiohead(!), Kaiser Chiefs, Tocotronic und NoFX, die Live evtl. auch nicht schlecht sind.
Man sieht also es lohnt sich auch dieses Jahr wieder zu kommen. Ich freue mich schon und hoffe die üblichen Verdächtigen sind auch wieder am Start (Lars?, Hanno?, Marc).
