Das sich GAIM vor Kurzem in Pidgin umbenannt hat, dürfte dem aufmerksamen Online-Leser wohl kaum entgangen sein. Fast jede News-Site hat darüber berichtet.
Nun hat Pidgin auch noch eine schöne überarbeitete Webpräsenz bekommen. Sehr nett und zeitgemäß, wie ich finde.
Was mich jedoch nicht davon abhält, weiterhin Gajim zu verwenden. Mit Jabber-Transports braucht man ja schließlich keinen Multi-Protokoll Client. Wenn es dann mal nur noch Jabber gibt, kann man auch diese nach und nach deaktivieren.

Zum Laptop des OLPC-Projektes gibt es so langsam immer mehr Infos. Lange Zeit bekam man nur wenig Details des Geräts zu Gesicht.
Vom XO getauften Kinder-Lern-Laptop, gibt es inzwischen schon die zweite Generation an Prototypen. Es scheint alos immer konkreter zu werden. So findet man diese Woche gleich zwei längere Beiträge. Einmal einen recht ausführlichen Artikel bei Heise online und einmal ein Interview bei Golem.

Voraussichtlich soll das Laptop noch dieses Jahr an Entwicklungsländer ausgeliefert werden.

Da hat wohl jemand meine Idee geklaut. Just am heutigen Tag habe ich mein Projekt für die Schule abgegeben, dass sich mit Gestaltung und Konzeption eines Communitiy-Online-Shops befasst und schon wird Shoppero gelaunched, das genau das gleiche ein recht ähnliches Konzept hat...

Ach ja, Gestaltungsentwürfe von mir gibt es hier.

Maybe you heard already about Jamendo. It is a plattform for Creative-Commons licenced music. It's mainly used by newcomers and less famous artists to promote and share their music. So the plattform provides all it's soundfiles in proper file-formats (no DRM) for free download.
Though browsing and downloading each track first is not that convinient on an every day base. Probably some developers thought the same and wrote a nice plugin for Rhythmbox, the famous music player for the GNOME-Desktop.
So, if you are using Rhythmbox 0.9.8 (or higher), you just need to enable the Jamendo plugin and you can play and browse the Jamendo tracks, as if they would be on your own computer. Because that's so nicely integrated into Rhythmbox it's a nice extension to any local music-collection, without having the hassle, of getting all tracks or playlistfiles onto your disk first.
Actually another good reason to use Rhythmbox, which is still my player of choise, eventhough I am always happy to try other players too.

Das Serenditpity-Projekt hat eine Umfrage zu ihrer Blog-Software gestartet. Jeder ist aufgerufen Teil zu nehmen.

Nicht nur für den üblichen Heimanwender und Serverberreich wird Opensource-Software entwickelt. Nein, auch für sehr Fachspezifische Berreiche, wie der medizinischen Versorgung. Wie ein scheinbar noch eher junges Projekt namens OpenVista ® beweist, gibt es nun auch eine Verwaltungssoftware für Krankenhäuser und Ärzte unter einer freien Lizenz. Lauffähig angeblich auf Linux, Window und theoretisch auch auf Mac. Join the revolution!
