Color management has finally arrived at the GNOME Desktop. The new piece of software is called gnome color manager and is still pretty young. I heard about it while ago, so after installing Ubuntu 10.04 I found it in the repos and gave it a shot. It looks quite simple and promising. Still a bit unstable (crashes on some clicks) though. Unfortunately I couldn't calibrate my screen, because the color profile (ICC) I had for my screen was not suitable for full color calibration and I don't have any equipment to mesure my screen. But it's a good thing GNOME is getting a color manager, which it opens up to the professional Designers and DTP uses.

Nachdem nun alle neuen Browserversionen (ab IE8 und FF3 auch die letzten zwei) den Acid-2 Test bestehen, ging das »Webstandards Project« in die nächste Runde und gab heute die Fertigstellung des neuen Acid-3 Tests bekannt.
Im Firefox-3-beta2 sieht es ja schon garnicht so schlecht aus, wie ich festgetellt habe. Mehr Screenshots von andere Browsern hat heise in seinem Artikel verlinkt.

Today I just stumbled upon a blog entry mentioning another Last.fm Radio-client using GTK+. I already knew last-exit for a while, I even blogged about that one already. Though last-exit didn't become really stable yet, even in the newer version 5. So I just gave Vagalume a shot today. It looks quite alright eventhough it needs more testing to tell about it's stability.

To spice up your daily communication, Spicebird was designed with chat and News-Feed integration. It's the perfect tool as a lightweight Evolution replacement and more focused on the home user. Rather than to bring all the important business features it's made to integrate all your personal Topics in one piece of Software. It comes even with a neat start-screen to give you an overview of what's currently going on in all departments.
Anyway, I didn't want to write a long story here. Spicebird was hyped all over the web those days. So most things are probably explained. Only one thing that still iches me, is that I can't make use of the mail and the chat feature yet. Because usually all my connections (Jabber, IMAP, SMTP) work on SSL. But Spicebird seems to still have issues with SSL/TLS handling. Probably it works already with the "official" certificates. But not with CA-Cert ones, even if you import the Root-Cert yourself.
So, I hope I will have more luck with that, when the beta phase is over!

Elisa ist der Name einer Media-Center Software, für Linux und andere Plattformen. Das Projekt ist allerdings noch sehr jung, macht aber optisch schon einen recht schicken Eindruck.
Bei meiner Testinstallation der aktuellen Version, lief es etwas unperformant und ließ sich so nur unflüssig bedienen. Aber das was sich da entwickelt, scheint in die richtige Richtung zu gehen. Coole Gimnicks sind vor allem die F-Spot und Youtube (+andere Webdienste) Integration. Es gibt verschiedene Ansichts-Modi, unter anderem auch die vom neuen MacOS bekannte »Karussel«- bzw. Slideshow-Ansicht.

Ich hab euch natürlich auch ein paar nette Screenshots gemacht.

Das ist ja mal doppelt peinlich. Nicht nur dass man Windows auf einem Geldautomaten betreibt, nein es ist nichtmal registriert und zeigt deshalb eine Meldung an.

Da seit ich auf Ubuntu Gutsy aktualisiert hatte das Screenlets-Repository für deb-Pakete nicht mehr erreichbar war, hatte ich mir bisher Screenlets nicht wieder installiert. Heute musste ich jedoch feststellen, dass http://hendrik.kaju.pri.ee/ubuntu/ wieder erreichbar ist. Somit habe ich nun Screenlets wieder am laufen und habe dafür natürlich auch Compiz-Fusion wieder aktiviert. Ansonsten funktioniert die Transparenz ja auch nicht.
Nach der Installation macht es Sinn, sich noch ein paar weitere Screenlets von gnome-look.org herunter zu laden. Dort gibt es auch ein Paket mit einer Auswahl an Screenlets.

Und zur Feier des Tages habe ich natürlich auch noch gleich ein paar Screnshots angefertigt, die es nun in meiner Galerie zu bestaunen gibt.
